Please read the race description below:
GCSOM Running Club has created a 5k race opportunity to help motivate you to stay healthy during this strange moment in history. Additionally, it's a chance to support organizations responding to COVID-19 and/or those who are supporting communities hardest hit by the pandemic.
The entry fee for the race is $5, though of course you are welcome to donate more if you can, and you can donate and not run at all if running isn't your cup of tea. To participate, all you need to do is give the registration fee and then run! Since we can't run together and keep track of everyone's time, you will need to track your 5k on your own and then submit a photo or screenshot of your race time. Some apps that could help you with this are: Runkeeper, Fitbit, Strava, Nike Running Club and so many more.
The "race date" or deadline for the run submission will be June 15th. You are welcome to submit your run at any point, though please know you can only submit once, so we recommend you train up to ensure you give your favorite listed nonprofit a good chance! The winner of the race will be able to choose the nonprofit they wish the funds go to. Please note that 100% of the profit from entry fees will go directly to the organization.
While the funds of this race will go to one of the organizations listed below, we think it would be amiss to not mention the loss of our fellow runner, Ahmaud Arbery. We encourage our runners to reflect on their privileges as they run and consider what it means to be black in America. There are so many injustices, many of which have become even more apparent during this pandemic, such as disparities in healthcare. To honor his memory, we would like to name the 5k: Run 4 the Frontline, Run with Maud.
Nonprofit organizations focusing on COVID-19 relief and hardest hit communities by the pandemic
-Friends of the Poor
-Meals for Medics
-Frontline Foods
-National Domestic Violence Hotline
-Emergent Fund COVID response
-NEPA COVID-19 Response Fund
-Crisis Text Line
-Share our Strength - No Kid Hungry Fund
-PPE 2 NEPA
-Meals on Wheels
